Uppsala Center for Labor Studies (UCLS)


The Uppsala Center for Labor Studies is funded by a grant to Uppsala University from the Swedish Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (FORTE). The center was started in January, 2010.

UCLS is a multidisciplinary undertaking, comprising researchers from economics, political science and labor law. UCLS focuses on three broad research themes:

  • Labor market institutions and employment relations
  • Unemployment and social protection
  • Earnings, education, and inequality

The Director of UCLS is Bertil Holmlund, professor of Economics at Uppsala University. The deputy director is Per-Anders Edin, professor of Industrial Relations at Uppsala University. The Department of Economics serves as host institution for the center.
