Pågående forskningsprojekt:
Jobbtorg in the City of Stockholm This project studies municipal activation policy programmes for unemployed recipients of social assistance in the City of Stockholm where the activation policy programme is called Jobbtorg. In the Social Service Act of 1998, it was established that municipalities can require that individuals on social assistance participate actively in job-search activities or other labour market related activities in order to obtain social assistance. Jobbtorg were introduced in Stockholm in January 2008 and changed the traditional social assistance organisation since similar requirements for activation and labour market measures were introduced in all city districts. Among other things, the effects and the implementation of the activation measures are studied in the project.
Economic policy and the well-being of families The purpose of this project is to study how economic policy affects the behaviour and well-being of families. To investigate these issues, we assemble register data from different sources with detailed information on labour market outcomes of parents and health outcomes for both parents and their children. This novel database is used to evaluate different policy reforms aimed at improving the welfare of families. The behaviour and well-being of parents and children are important in their own right, but knowledge of their determinants is crucial also for our understanding of the development of society as whole, e.g. long-run labour supply, productivity, and future welfare costs. The project is partly financed by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond.
The health status among recipients of welfare benefits The study describes the health status and the use of the social security system among recipients of welfare benefits in Sweden. Previous research has yielded empirical evidence on issues such as the effects of different policy measures on welfare benefit receipt. However, little is known about the health status among recipients of welfare benefits. Thanks to rich Swedish data, this can now be investigated. In Sweden, about 400 000 individuals, or 4.5 percent of the population, receive welfare benefits.
Evaluation of the effects of the Swedish income tax credit This project evaluates the effects of the Swedish income tax credit (Jobbskatteavdraget). The aim of the tax credit is to make work more profitable, thereby increasing the total number of hours worked. The project studies the effects of the tax credit on, for example, the total number of hours worked and active labour force participation. The tax credit was implemented on January 1 2007 and implies a general tax decrease for all employed individuals. The credit was reinforced in January 2008 and a further reinforcement is planned for 2009.
